UFO Busting #53

I'm seriously thinking a March redo is in order.  I cannot believe we are already approaching the last week and there is still so much left to do.  As you read this, I am locked in the back room not aloud to come out until my March Island Batik project is quilted, or possibly I'm dealing with some last minute life/adult-ing business that must be handled before the end of the month.  I'm actually hoping it's the first scenario.  What ever the case, I did manage to be slightly productive this week.

I went two sections forward, two blocks back.  Sections 1 and 2 of A Flower Bouquet are complete and the black and white polka dot sashing has been cut.

However, I have fell behind on the next two blocks.  I have to remind myself to stop stressing about it.  There really is no dead line.  So I will be putting this on hold until I catch up on a few other projects.

However, I am completely caught up on Little Bunny Quilt's Daisy Chain Mystery Quilt.

I can four patch in my sleep, which is a good thing, because those just happen to be the first two steps for the quilt along.  I will be making the throw size version of the quilt and so far keeping up (direction every two weeks) has been very very doable...when with a busy schedule.

Next up is some planning for an upcoming project in July.  It will involve lots of my favorite thing...Aurifil Thread!

I will be using different weights of Aurifil thread to create (hopefully) a really cool quilted thread art piece.  Once my March project is quilted, I hope to create a sample piece to see how these different weights (blue 28wt, yellow 80wt, lavender 40wt, red 12wt and melon 50wt) all play together.  By using different weights of thread I hope to give the project dimension.

Speaking of Aurifil I was lucky enough to be one of the 2018 Aurifil Artisans.  Applications for the 2019 year were released on the Aurifil blog this week.  I've applied again this year and hope to be selected again, but if not, I assure you I will still be sewing up a storm with the thread I love.  If you are interested in joining the program, please hop over, read about it and fill out the application here.

I also got happy mail this week in the form of two books, both dealing with negative space.

I was gifted an Amazon card at Christmas and had yet to use it.  I have been following along with Sylvia Schaefer at Flying Parrot Quilts for her Negative Space Handbook blog hop and decided, I need this in my life.  Then of course, Amazon chimed in and offered up Accentuate the Negative and I thought yes please.  So I ordered both books and cannot wait to break into them.

Another thing I cannot wait for, or to see when it is finished is Deana at Dreamworthy Quilts and the quilt she is making to document the miles she and her husband walk/bike from their home to Arizona.

Make sure you check out her update post on the quilt to learn about what each square and log represent.  I love that so many people are making quilts this year to document important mile stones and events in their lives.

Now let's document what's been going on in your sewing space this week.  Link up below and tell us all about it.

My March has been very productive, but the last 2 weeks I have been dog sitting, so I am ready to get back to only 2 dogs, not 4! Then I will have more time to sew, knit, or just waste!!

I have both of those books; you're going to like them! My March has flown by too! You'll get caught up on the blocks, so no worries. Can't wait to see the next IB project!

Hi Tish! Yes please to a March redo. I had a self-imposed lock in the sewing room myself today. I have all the blocks finished but they still need to be sorted for a quilt top. Your thread project looks very cool with an interesting combination of colors. I can't wait until you share it with us! I saw the Artisans email, but I can't imagine that I would qualify for anything like that in this lifetime. I hope you are enjoying your weekend. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

I love the fabrics you are using for your Daisy Chain mystery! I'm kinda sorry I'm not doing that one but I'm so behind on other projects right now I didn't think I could keep up. I'm with you on a March redo, as long as I can also keep what little progress I did make! Can't wait to see what you do with all that Aurifil thread for July. I admit I'm a bit stumped on that challenge.

Oh wow, that "Negative Space" book looks wonderful! I love machine quilting in open spaces but has of yet not mastered it to the degree I desire. I even bought some new rulers to help give me new ideas and stimulation.

Thanks so much for the feature on my Trek to Arizona. It was super fun to pop in today and see that.

Your mystery quilt four patches are done in super fun colors. It will be fun to see this one evolve.

Good luck on getting your Island Batik done. Pressure is no fun, but try to enjoy it.

A March extension would be great. I have yet to tackle the dreaded taxes. I usually do those by Feb 15th, but this year I know we'll be taking a big hit and have to pay, so I've put it off. That book looks fantastic. And as I sit here dithering over whether I'd rather attach binding to a UFO to claim a finish, or go hit the longarm in an attempt to get my APQ Challenge #8 UFO quilted up before month's end, I realize that I forgot to link up my last UFO finish when I was distracted to get the TGIFF link posted on time. Thanks for this linkup that helps spur me to work on my UFOs!

I agree March just disappeared, but I don't want a re-do...I'm done with winter!!! I'm madly quilting my IB March project. Glad to hear you have an idea for the thread...I haven't got any ideas.
