UFO Busting #32

The UFOs were buzzing like crazy in my house this week, so much so, that it was hard to focus on just one of them.  The first project I tackled I can't show you quite yet.  I put the finishing touches on the Fireburst Mystery Quilt post, finished Block 3 stuff and pieced the quilt tops.  We actually had 20 minutes of sunshine and no rain so I grabbed the opportunity to get pictures of all five (you read that right) of my mystery quilts hanging on the clothes line.  Since I opted for the Fireburst photo shoot, I totally missed out on getting pictures of my finished Star Blossoms Quilt for a look-I'm-finished post.  When I say 20 minutes of no rain that was it.

Since a project is finished a new UFO needs to be born, right?  I've decided to participate in Angela Walter's newest Free Motion Challenge Quilt Along.  It is a weekly project in which she will walk you through various dot to dot quilting motifs on a simple quilt.  The first quilting instructions will be out on Monday October 2nd so there is still plenty of time to piece the quilt and gather supplies if you want to join in.  Seriously, there are only 3 seams to sew.  The trickiest part was marking the 4 on point squares.

Next, I decided it was way past time to work on the Sewcial Bee Sampler again.  I have all the blocks through 11 complete, so I pulled 12 and 13 out of their baggies and thought why not?

I got all the half square triangles and flying geese finished for the blocks, but for now they are probably going to have to just hang out on my sewing table until I can grab a few minutes to stitch them up.

That pretty much sums up my week of sewing.  Let's see what fun things were posted last week.

There were a few UFO finishes to celebrate last week!  First up we have Roseanne and Sue at Home Sewn By Us.  They sewed along last year with Pat Sloan and her Grandma's Kitchen QAL.  Instead of turning all of those blocks into a quilt, they decided to make table runners instead.

I just love them!  Because they were not huge and bulky like a quilt, it was the perfect playground to practice free motion quilting!  Make sure you hop over and check them out.

This one is technically not a finish but it's so close it isn't funny.  We have Helen visiting from Midget Gem Quilts.  She currently has two projects she's focusing on; her so close to a finish it's not funny, Playtime Plus Quilt and her Quatrefoil Quilt.

She's taken a break from burying threads on Playtime to hand stitch the binding down.  That seems reasonable to me.   And I'm so proud of her for plugging right along with the free motion and she's working on quilting Quatrefoil!  Her grandson will be snuggled up enjoying his quilt in no time, I can just feel it.

Now it's time to link up what you've been up to this week.  Link up below and show us all the fun stuff you've been working on!

UFO Busting #31

What a week over here!  It always amazes me that even in the midst of the busiest week I can sneak in some sewing time.  Last weekend's move of the aunt got kicked up several notches, when the movers didn't show up on Friday to pack/move the last of the big items.  She had to be out by Saturday...yikes!  But a huge shout out to my family and friends for coming to the rescue.  We got her moved all in one evening and we managed to break nothing.  Hooray!!!  But the busy week didn't end there, nope.  Saturday I played runner/printer for my daughter's photo booth at our local Children's Festival.  Her booth was a huge success and I think I sweated off an additional 10lbs from all that running back and forth.  All I could think was thank goodness I'm down 25lbs!

I was continually running from the booth to the building in the back to print pictures.
Then we were facing homecoming week.  A time for football and celebrating community.  We had a small parade, a pep rally, the big game and of course a dance.  Miss Jen decided to skip out on the dance.  Like her momma, that isn't really her sort of thing.

So what did I manage to sneak in?  Not a quilt finish, but so close.  I just need to decided on the binding and I can celebrate this finish with you next week.

UFO Busting #30

Happy Saturday to you!  I hope this post finds you happy and safe where ever you are.  It's been a crazy week watching as Hurricane Florence prepares to hit along the east coast near the Carolinas.  I did manage to sneak in some sewing earlier in the week before helping my aunt in law prepare for her weekend move.  My muscles definitely got a workout this week and the past few.

I want to give a huge shout out to my family and friends for all the help the provided with this move.  I feel very lucky to be surrounded by such wonderful people that are willing to jump in and help, when really they didn't have to.  It definitely made this move much quicker and easier.

Now on to the sewing.

UFO Busting #29

"A journey of a thousand quilts begins with a single stitch."  I was quite happy to see this piece of sage advice when chopping up this beautiful Kate Spain FQ last weekend.  Isn't that true of everything?  Do not discount the small steps we take, they lead to many great things!  Even when that one small stitch seems impossible to make happen.

My focus this week, when I could find the time has been finishing the piecing of this Star Blossom Baby quilt.  Slowly she moved in various stages.

Fireburst Mystery-My Block 2 Blocks

In case you missed it this past weekend, instructions for the second block in the Fireburst Mystery Quilt was released.  I didn't get to share the pictures of my finished blocks in that post, well because they were not finished.  But I am happy to report that all 3 sets are complete!

First up, in absolutely no layout what so ever, are the blocks for my full sized scrappy version of the quilt.  I can't wait to get this one finished to see how it looks.

Are you sewing along with us?  We'd love to see what you are making.  You can join in our Facebook Group here and also feel free to tag me @tishnwonderland or #fireburstmysteryquilt on Instagram.  It's not too late to join in the fun.  We have one more block to go next month and a whole lot of time to get this put together.

Fireburst Mystery Quilt--Block 2

Happy 1st of September!!!  I apologize for being a day late.  Let's get this month started off with a small boom in the form of Bock 2!  This block may take just a little bit longer than last month's but I promise it will still be pretty easy.  Below are the pieces we will be working with.
