Rainbow Rose--Finished

"A rose by any other name would smell as sweet."--William Shakespeare.

Versions of this little quilt are popping up everywhere after the Rainbow Rose Quilt Along hosted by the Modern Quilters Ireland has wrapped up.  Each and everyone of them are beautiful and unique in their own way, but the sweetest thing about this Rainbow Rose quilt is, she belongs to me.  I have enjoyed everything about this quilt.  From the fabrics (you can read more about my piecing of this quilt here), to the quilting, to the photographing.

I didn't spend too much time planning out the quilting for this one.  Don't get me wrong it was tempting to free motion the dickens out of it, but I loved the simple look of the echoed triangles in the baby quilt I recently finished so much, I decided to carry it over to this wallhanging/baby quilt.  Originally, I planned to quilt it with a gold/yellow thread, but after seeing the beautiful rainbow lines in Yvonne at Quilting Jetgirl's quilt, I knew I too wanted to put that beautiful variegated thread on this quilt.

How can you not be happy when you look at this spool of Aurifil #3817 Marrakesh?  I know it makes me smile.  I love it so much, I have two spools.  The world needs more rainbows and I'm not quite done quilting with it yet, so stay tuned.

Back to the project.  I had lots of help when it came to the quilting.

Princess Caroline of the Fuzzy Butts was nice enough to hold the quilt down while I marked my 1" lines.  Oliver was content supervising from the sidelines.  But all of their/my hard work paid off,

and what was created was a beautiful texture of lines all pointing to the center.  All things point to the rainbow.

My backing fabric was an interesting find, colorful Calveras or sugar skulls.

Are you sitting down?  I didn't do a flanged binding this time.  Believe me I'm just as shocked as you are.  Instead, I pulled from my stash to create a simple machine binding in rainbow colors.

And just like that, she was done and I could not be happier with how she looks.

Warning:  Picture Overload Ahead

Now that I'm nice and warmed up, it's time to quilt my Heart Quilt for Pulse.  I can't fix the world myself, but I can do everything I can to try to make it a happier, brighter place.  One positive vibe can do good.  No matter what we do, let's send as many good vibes out as we can.  Let's create our own rainbow of prayer, positive vibes and love for life itself.

Come join the party!  Today I'm linking up with Rainbow Rose QALLet's Bee Social, and  Linky Tuesday.

And I think of those lyrics from " Blowin' in the wind". Love those lines on your quilt, and the next one with hearts, I agree that if each of us contributes what they can, surely in time all will be a better world to live in. as Neil Armstrong said, " One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind"
I think your steps are fairly large, and to be able to help others is a part of each of our lives that will live on for others.

Tish, your Rainbow Rose is just lovely. I especially love how you quilted it. Good thing you had your feline helpers! And I am flat-out jealous of your quilt photography skills. I wish you lived in New Mexico, and I could pay you to photograph all my quilts! Take care, Mary.

One positive vibe can do so much good! <3

I think that the quilting you chose for your Rainbow Rose QAL quilt is fantastic! I love how it echoes out the center shape, and clearly that 3817 is the perfect thread for this quilt. :) (I'm only completely biased, LOL!)

Hot damn girl! I love your Rainbow Rose and the quilting is simple, yet just plain old perfect! Top it off with that binding and you have a gorgeous piece of color for your wall! I really enjoy how you oriented the Pulse Hearts. So clever, this is the first time I've see them laid out that way!!

I love straight line quilting - fortunate as I'm terrible at FMQ - but it looks terrific on this quilt. I also love your Pulse quilt. I still have to wash mine and then it is off to Orlando. I like the layout you did and I like just the plain hearts .... I surrounded mine with a lot of sashing but I like yours better.

Tish your Rainbow Rose is a beauty indeed! Your quilting is perfect and I love that rainbow thread. When I finally get mine done, I just might borrow your idea. Heart for Pulse is wonderful too. I love what you had to say.

Oh, Tish, it's so very beautiful! I'd love to make one. I know it would take me forever to find all the right fabrics. Perhaps if I start the hunt now, by the time it goes from my wish list to my make it list, I'll have it together! I can't wait to see your Heart for Pulse when it is completed, too! ~karen

Anything rainbowy is a winner in my book and I love how your quilting is such a great accent to the shape of the star. Rainbowy binding is another winner and thanks for the closeup of your background fabrics too! Text! Unique and fun! I love it.

I love everything about this quilt, especially that there's a piece or two of 'me' in it :-) I wish I could my RR done 'just like that' as you say yours happened! As always I LOVE the photography you do to showcase your work. AND your feline help in the form of encouragement and supervision and of course butt-testing for snuggle-ability. What you said at the end about spreading good vibes is so true, and gave my heart a needed lift. Thanks my friend.

I love your finished Rainbow Rose - it's reminded that I need to get a move on and get mine quilted! I had thought plain grey thread but I do have some variegated rainbow thread in my studio so now I think I will have a play. Love the binding - I had thought of getting in some rainbow colours too. Your quilt for Pulse is lovely - as you say we can't change the world single handedly but we can make it a nice place to live in xx

The scrappy binding looks brilliant with it - thanks a million for quilting a long!

I love the way you've crafted your quilt, everything from the subtle patterned background fabrics to the careful marking and stitching of all those quilting lines and your Rainbow binding. It has been such fun to see how everyone has interpreted this design and made it their own.
