Geared Up---Island Batik Beat the Heat Blog Hop

Welcome to my stop on the Island Batik Beat the Heat Blog Hop!

If this is your first time visiting, I hope you have time to stick around and check out some of the other projects I've made this year participating in the Island Batik Ambassador Program.  Today I am literally all Geared Up to share with you Kathy Engle's new line for Island Batik called Geared Up.

When I tore into my surprise bundle of fabrics this spring, I squealed with excitement.  Contained within where these beautiful black and gold fabrics covered in fun gear and chain prints!

They even go with my favorite bracelet!

I couldn't wait to cut into these fabrics and start piecing.  After auditioning some original designs and bucket list patterns, I landed on Fat Quarter Shop's Jelly Roll Ripples pattern.  I love the way the blocks sort of resembled turning gears.

I flew through the cutting of the quilt using the AccuQuilt Go Cutter and 2 1/2" dye provided to the ambassadors by the good people at AccuQuilt.

I love how the solid white batik pops against those dark rich golds and blacks.

After the blocks were arranged and sewn together, it was time to layer the top and backing with some Heirloom 80/20 cotton blend batting provided to me by Hobbs Batting.

For the quilting I decided to keep things super simple and make sure this quilt was snug-a-ly.  I paired up a spool of Aurifil #5011 Cotton (50wt) from my thread stash with straight(ish) lines spaced an inch apart.

The result is quilting that leaves you wanting to stay curled up all day and doesn't compete with those beautiful prints.

A huge thank you to Island Batik and Kathy Engle for allowing me to play with these beautiful fabrics.  Make sure you hop over to visit Michelle at Creative Blonde today to see what she whipped up using the Geared Up line and to Island Batik to see the list of all the ambassadors and the lines they will be using.  Also, each week of the hop, Island Batik will be giving away fabric from one of the collections featured that week.  This week you can enter to win a pre cut bundle of Kathy Engle's Garden Party using the raffle copter below.

Now I will leave you with a few blooper pictures.

The resident brown house panther stalking her prey.  I want to eat it up too!

It's rough being the quilt holder.  Sometimes you just have to curl up and take a nap on site.

We totally did it again.  Quilty best friend and fellow Island Batik Ambassador Sandra at mmm!quilts and I have joked for years that we share a brain cell.  Often doing things darn near at the same time, even not quilting related.  Without sharing with each other (it's been a crazy summer), we both managed to create to very different quilts but name them the same thing!

You can check out Sandra's Ripples Quilt here.

I want to thank you again for stopping by and hope you will be back!

Hi Tish! What a beauty this quilt is, and it was awfully nice of your quilt holder to take a break and show us just how big the quilt is! I love seeing how you get such excellent shots of the fabric, too. Sweet. This fabric line is really a nice one, but I have to say I'm partial to the giveaway bundle - I love all of those bright colors. ~smile~ Roseanne

OMG how funny that you and Sandra both have Ripples! I love what you did with this line and especially love your outake photos. Great job!

Precuts help make things go faster by already being a uniform usable size and also by co-ordinating with each other wonderfully such as in this gorgeous quilt!
