UFO Busting #62

It's a weekend of celebration in my house hold this weekend.  I've always said if I could get my daughter to the age of 18 and graduated from high school...I would have accomplished something.  And finally my friends, I have done just that.  Even through all the insaneness of school events and the big day itself, I managed to sneak in a bit of sewing time.

The end of the month is quickly approaching and my May Island Batik project isn't finished.  I'm calling it the Lusty Month of May Quilt and I am itching for a finish.  Quilting started this week and it has been all about the lines.  Lines are modern, right?

This quilt is made up of lots and lots of negative space.  A quilters dream and nightmare all in one.  I decided to tackle the space by breaking it up into strips of different widths to be filled with various fillers.

I am tackling the largest section first with 1/4" lines that go in different directions.  I admit I questioned my sanity once I started quilting.  I marked the quilt with different registration lines to get myself started.

The quilting (with rulers) went much quicker than I anticipated...which is a good thing.

All those blue lines, though very necessary, was driving me crazy.  So with no one watching I spritzed this section down in the early morning hours, so I could see those lines in all their glory.

Horrible picture but it still makes me oh so happy.  Now I just need to figure out what to fill the other, much smaller, spaces with.

Another challenge that was tackled last week, was by Lisa at Sunlight in Winter Quilts and her guild's UFO challenge.  Lisa decided to tackle a clamshell project she had been avoiding working on for some time now.

The best news?  It stitched up much quicker than what she thought it would!  I think that deserves a celebration too!  Make sure you hop over and check out her gorgeous quilt top.  Do not clam up on this one, show your love!

Now it's your turn.  Let's see what you've been up to this week.  Link up and tell us about it below.

Oooh, I love all those lines! I also have to spritz my quilt the *second* I can because I hate having the blue get in the way of what it looks like. Can't wait to see your lusty quilt!

Woot woot Tish! Great job with Jennifer - now it's all up to her. You've given her all the tools and she'll make great decisions for her future. I can't wait to hear what's next. LOVE all those straight lines. Very modern indeed. All that negative space would throw me into a huge panic, but I'm sure glad you can tackle it so grandly. Looking forward to the full reveal. ~smile~ Roseanne

Congratulations to your daughter!

Those modern lines look amazing. I think they are harder than they look.
