Bundle Buster Baby Quilt--Finish

This little gem of a quilt has actually been finished since February, I just have not gotten around to writing about it.  How does that even happen??  This is also my first UFO to cross off the list this year.

Originally, this fabric came to me in the form of a gift from my sister in law.  She found herself in a fabric store, which is funny because she is not a quilter.  She knew that these particular colors are not ones that I typically work with, so a sort of challenge was born.  Step outside your comfort zone and create.  After a few months of pondering, I landed on Yvonne at Quilting Jetgirl's Bundle Buster Quilt.

Bundle Buster was the perfect pattern choice because it works with fat quarters and allows you to chop them up and still show off all the great prints.  Plus it makes for a super fast finish.  Then this little top found itself setting around until I decided how to quilt it.

I auditioned many threads; oranges, yellows, creams, grays and browns.  When the final callback came, the part went to this little guy, Aurifil #2888, Fern Green.

Fern Green gave a monolog performance across the top of this quilt, which melted my heart.  I chose to quilt a boxy spiral edge to edge.  Because this quilt works with squares and rectangles, it was easy to mark the spirals into sections.

The inch spacing in the spirals gave the quilt a nice soft texture, perfect for snuggling.

For the binding and backing I went with a fabric already in my stash.  I've always been a huge fan of finishing off quilts with fabrics not contained in the quilt.

So for this binding I went with a scribble spot green and a gray linen fabric to create a flange.

I'm not sure the fate of this quilt quite yet; if it will be gifted or sold.  One thing is for sure, I think it will make for a fun modern quilt to snuggle a little one in.  It makes me super happy to be able to cross a UFO off the list and fly on to the next one!

Today I'm linking up with TGIFF, and Can I Get A Whoop! Whoop!

I have a fat quarter of that black print, and I need to use it for something. I also have this pattern waiting in the wings. Can't wait to make mine! Love that quilting too and, of course, the green thread!

Hi Tish! Well, isn't that a pretty bundle and didn't you show it to its best advantage. I love this pattern for that very reason - great job Yvonne. I'll have to check it out. I love how you quilted it, especially with the green thread! Nice job, missy. And cross off a UFO - how cool. ~smile~ Roseanne

I have been known to get behind in my blogging about finished items sometimes too. Nothing wrong with using a whole different fabric for the back-I do it all the time;)
