Americana Flag Finish 2018

Two small UFO's busted!  These sweet and innocent Americana Flags have been hanging out in my house, basted even, for three years...gasp.  Picture it, West Virginia 2015, a girl and a dream.  She wrote a tutorial for Americana Flags (you can find it here) a small wall hanging so easy you could piece it together in two-ish hours or less.  Her vision was to make flags and give them to all her loved ones for Christmas.  Needless to say five were promptly stitched up and given away.  Three were basted and banished to the back room.  Why?  Cause she's a quilter and got distracted by 20 million other things.

Then December 2016 one of those three flags managed to escape from the back room prison along with materials for some hot pads and found itself finished and gifted to a neighbor; leaving these two poor flags left to float around in UFO land again.  Their cries of anguish finally paid off.  The girl decided it was time to set these UFO's free!

Okay maybe that was a little dramatic but it makes me feel less guilty about the time it took to finish these projects.  Doesn't matter they are done.  To finish up these flags I searched through my stash for the perfect spools of Aurifil thread.

Aurifil #2784 Dark Navy, #2000 Light Sand, and my personal favorite, #2260 Red Wine helped complete the look these quilts begged for.  Each star block received its own unique custom quilting and the strips would be lines and ribbon candy and lines and stars.

I think these little ones will be hanging out a little while longer with me.  You never know when you will need a quick Christmas present at the last minute.  If you find yourself in that pinch needing a last minute gift, make sure you check out the free tutorial.

Congratulations on getting them finished! I think that having a few items like these on hand for last minute gifts is a great idea, and I'm sure they will find the right loving home. :)

It's a good feeling to finish a UFO no matter how long it's taken. These two are very cute and would make great gifts!

More great finishes. I really like how the flags are slightly different colors and pair together so well.

The flags look terrific - ribbon and star quilting in the red rows - just perfect. Always good to have something - somethingS finished and to stop the screaming!

Well done! I like your quilting motifs. I enjoyed the "story" -- may have had a smile on my face. ☺

They are really quite darling! I'm envious of your smooth, even ribbon candy. I can't stitch that one to save my life. All the ribbons slowly fall into a heap, leaning over like drunken sailors to one side. I can wishbones with the best of 'em, but ribbon candy defeats me. The star motif is great, too. They don't look connected; did you break thread between each star?

Hi again Tish! Great finishes. I just love flags! Now that the poor things have been moved out from the bottom of the UFO pile, I think they deserve to be enjoyed. At half mast all month for former President Bush. They would make a wonderful Christmas gift. I'll have to check out your tutorial! Happy Happy Tuesday to you. ~smile~ Roseanne
