Ducks in a Row

It's Friday!!!  Let's everyone shake our tail feathers for this little finish!  Towards the end of May, Lorna at Sew Fresh Quilts posted the release of her then latest pattern Ducks In A Row.  Oh.  My.  Goodness.  Those ducks!  I was in love.  How adorable are they??  Are you with me?  I wanted to make it, but I really didn't need a baby quilt.  Then like a day later, I found out two of my co-workers are expecting little girls (so I still have a second one to make, but I have time).  YES!!!!

I didn't even hesitate.  Literally that evening I purchased the pattern.  That weekend, I was headed to Country Roads Quilt Shop and decided to commit to fabric.  Bright pink grunge and a super cute heart white on white fabric.

Since there were only four small blocks and one larger one and lots of negative space, this top pieced together super quickly.

And the quilting was even quicker.  If it's not broke, don't fix it...I love Lorna's organic wavy lines, so I decided to out line momma duck and her babies and do the wavy lines in the background.  Aurifil #1100 Red Plumb melted perfectly into the background.

If you look closely in this picture you may notice a few blue dots.  One at momma ducks forehead (do ducks have foreheads?), one at the tip of her beak, and a small one at her neck.  I wanted the waves to look like they naturally flowed behind the ducks and those small dots allowed me to have targets to aim for so that I didn't have to break thread.  I could stich all the lines to the front of momma, travel around her bottom to the other side, then aim for my dots between her and the next duck.  Then simply travel around the top of the baby's head and continue that way between ducks.  (I hope that made since)

I had to finish off this very pink quilt with a nice little flange binding.  I even found a new use for my extension table leg.

Momma and her babies are ready for a quick wash this weekend in the machine and will be delivered to my co-worker, so he can enjoy it with is precious little bundle of joy.

I had hoped to grab some more pictures with the quilt, but the weather has totally been a pill this week.  I was afraid it would swim away if I tried.  So here are a few more pictures from my one little photo shoot.

So that's my little finish for this Friday.  Time to prepare for the weekend and see what next week brings.  I'm hoping to have a date with a fellow blogger this weekend and it isn't Dave.  What?  Ok, he will probably be there too.  Hope everyone has a wonderful quilty weekend.  Stitch/quilt something even if it's only for 10 minutes.  Those small little bits do add up.

Today I'm linking up with Finished or Not Friday, TGIFF, and Can I Get a Whoop! Whoop!

Darling quilt! That touch of white with the flange binding is the perfect edge.

Love those duckies! Is your binding wrapped around anything else and then your extension table leg or just the leg? Great idea. I am always on the lookout for another way to keep my binding under control. Thanks for the idea.

It's wonderful! It's always great when you already know what you want to do for a baby quilt. I love the fabric you chose for your background. It's so much more interesting than a plain solid.

LOVE IT!! Too cute and a perfect quicky project for emergency gift giving! The wavy quilting is perfect and does remind one of water waves. Your blue dot method is genious for keeping a continuous stitch! Congrats on a really cute finish, Tish! (Jealous)

Of course you know how much I love this sweet finish! Those adorable white ducks look fabulous against that rich pink grunge background. Love the quilting and the flanged binding too! Icing and sprinkles on the quilty cake!

That is just toooo cute! I hardly noticed, okay I had to really look, for the blue dots, but what a great idea! I always learn something from reading your posts, and I'm sitting her gobsmacking my forehead as I see how you just turn around at the end of the wavy line and head the other way. Newbie here stops, cuts the thread, repositions the quilt, and stitches again. Hahaha. Now I know much better. Thanks, Tish! (Thank goodness I can't hear all the "Well, duhs" -- LOL). Have a great weekend!

Ducks + Grunge = Swoon! Such a fun baby gift. (Is the back the pink Grunge, too?) Thanks for the tip on working around the ducks to keep the quilting going.

Super cute! I love looking at Lorna's patterns, though I haven't been brave enough to try one yet! Definitely on my to-do list. I also think that pink grunge is perfect for this pattern!

That is just TOO cute! The white flange really sets off the whole top. I may need to check into using a bright grunge for my next baby quilt.

It may be small in size but it is huge in cuteness :-)
It is going to make the mom-to-be so very happy.

Cute as a button! I just went quackers over your quilt! I was in Buckhannon all last week...from Tuesday through Saturday at WV Wesleyan (I was pianist at Mission U --- love those grand pianos!). I stayed on campus most of the busy week but did make it to WalMart and Dairy King---I looked for you and Dave but didn't see you. lol
