UFO Busting #36

Well my friends, it has been one exhausting week and I feel like I haven't got much in the sewing department done.  But after reviewing some pictures from this week, I've decided even though the sewing machines were not buzzing, I was productive anyway.

Last weekend I concentrated on basting quilts.  My mom's garage was open because they were out of town and I decided to capitalize on it, in the form of setting up tables and getting high on basting spray fumes (joking to the last part of course).

It took several hours over two days but I managed to get 8 quilts all basted up.  Most of them are baby size, but it will make going from project to project so much smoother.

I also managed to almost get the binding and hanging tabs on the two flag quilts I have been working on.  Weather permitting I can snap some pictures and share them with you next week.  It is such a fun project to quilt and piecing is a breeze.

I am sad to report that there was no stash slashing for me this week.  BOO!  But I am happy to report I have had several people mention that they are joining me on my quest to gain control of my stash.  One person who took the leap and wielded her rotary cutter like a ninja was Wendy over at Pieceful Thoughts of my Quilting Life.

Just look at that beautiful stack of charm squares!  Wendy you are motivating me to clear my table back off and get to whacking fabric!

Now let's take a look at what everyone else was up to during last week's party.  If we are tackling UFO's a plan is always good.  Gail over at Quilting Gail has also been working her tushy off this year to encourage everyone to bust those UFO's and earn their quilting PhD.

Last week she talked about her current plan to tackle four different UFO's in waiting.  Make sure you hop over to read about her plan and cheer her on.

Next up we have Sandy over at Sew...This is My Blog and her recent UFO finish!

Sandy just finished up her version of Framed from the book Simply Retro by Camille Roskelley.  Sandy is on a mission to make quilts for her future grandkids and I just LOVE IT!  Make sure you hop over and congratulate her on busting this UFO.

Now let's see what you've been up to this week.  Make sure you link up below and tell us about all the quilting adventures you've had.

As a healthy right of passage into adulthood, this past weekend Jen was able for the first time to exercise one of her rights by voting.  Since we were out and about running errands we took the opportunity to swing by the early voting location and do our civic duties.  She was so excited to make her voice heard for the first time and I couldn't be prouder.

Jenny and I are voting for you to finish all those lingering projects!

You were a basting machine! That was a lot of work, but it will make it easier to keep moving. Thanks for sharing all that's been going on with cutting and finishing. I love seeing these things!

I am glad you realized how much you got done this past week, basting all those would be torture for me!!!!!! Nice that you were able to get them done on the table rather than a floor:0 I had no UFO finishes, only new ones;)

I love basting a whole stack of quilts at once! Makes me feel like I'm making *so much* progress! Good for you to get a stack of 8 basted!!!!! I know the finishes will be coming lickety-split!

Also, hooray for first voting!!! My dad & were recently reminiscing about my first vote. At the time where I lived you could register at the polls, so he took me after work. We saw our next-door neighbor there who could not believe I was old enough! My family will go together on Tuesday morning; my husband naturalized as a citizen 2 years ago so it's special to us to go together, and we take my 5-year-old so he knows it's important.

Having thoe quilts basted will be nice when you have a wee bit of time you can just grab and go a quilting.

I never think to baste more than one quilt (duh . . )! What a great idea, having them all ready to roll! Looking forward to seeing your flag quilts. My slashing has come to a standstill while I chase some other projects, but I refuse to put it away so it reminds me to get back to it. Hopefully tomorrow. Love the photo of you and your daughter :-)

Hi Tish! YAY Jen! Thank you for caring enough to use your voice. I can remember my first vote. I turned 18 on 10/30, and 11/6 was a presidential election. I was SO involved and remain so today, and stay up on current events. There is always hope for the next generation. {{Hugs}} a bunch for you and her - thank you for raising such a good girl. ~smile~ Ugg, eight quilts all layered and ready for you. That's exactly what we have to do tomorrow. It was supposed to be today, but I put it off. It will probably be next weekend - because I like to put it off. And we only have four to layer. Waaaaa. But it IS part of the process! I look forward to seeing the flags! I love those stars!! Happy Happy Saturday to you. ~smile~ Roseanne

Tish, your posts are always so delightfully written! Great job basting all those quilts! I took advantage of some nice weather and managed to make a very small pile and it was so nice to have them ready to go. I’m so proud of your daughter for voting. It’s so important. I’m off to check out the links you provided. It’s always so much fun to meet new-to-me quilt bloggers. Have a wonderful day! XO

That's great you were able to baste so many quilts. One step closer to having them finished. Good luck.

Well, you can never complain about having nothing to do on a rainy day when you have all those quilts basted! Way to go, Jen! And Mom!
