UFO Busting #29

"A journey of a thousand quilts begins with a single stitch."  I was quite happy to see this piece of sage advice when chopping up this beautiful Kate Spain FQ last weekend.  Isn't that true of everything?  Do not discount the small steps we take, they lead to many great things!  Even when that one small stitch seems impossible to make happen.

My focus this week, when I could find the time has been finishing the piecing of this Star Blossom Baby quilt.  Slowly she moved in various stages.

Until I had a finished top.

This is going to be such a fun modern top for my friend's baby that is due in November!  That border fabric just makes me happy, so bold and fun.  It's even moved into the basted quilt ready to go stage.

I tried something a bit different for me when basting.  I carried my portable design wall out to the porch and gave Christa Watson's spray basting using a design wall method a go.

This is an in process picture.  Let me tell you, this worked like a dream on this small project.  I don't have a large design wall, so unless I can sucker bribe convince a family member to allow me to have a temporary one at their home, I can only use this method on small quilts...but that's okay, it worked wonderfully.  If you aren't familiar with her method you can read more about it here.

With it all basted up, I've started marking some cross hatching in the background areas to make the ruler work go even quicker.

I have some fun things planned for these four spools of Aurifil thread!  I can't wait to start quilting this one.

I have some left over FQs from this project...what to do?  Our guild has another challenge going on to create something/anything using flying geese.  I think paired with this lovely white on white, these FQs will work perfectly for the challenge, but we will talk more about that later.  There is quilting to be done.

So let's see what you were up to last week.  Speaking of flying geese and heading into fall, Wendy over at Pieceful Thoughts of My Quilting Life had a finish last week.

Her beautiful table runner is a great way to celebrate as we get ready to transition from summer to fall and the birds begin their journey south.  There is also some very interesting feather facts to read over at her page too.

Rose at Something Rosemade was also celebrating a finish last week with her Scrap Vortex II.  So many yummy fabrics from "quilts past made" grace the top of this quilt.  I can't stop looking at it.  She backed it with a lovely plush fabric.  I just want to craw under this quilt on a porch swing with a good book and a mug of hot chocolate!

Now let's share what you've been working on this week.  A finish, a stitch of progress made or even a squirrely distraction, tell us what you've been up too.

Now I leave you with a squirrely distraction.  On a recent trip to the Dollar General, Jen and I may or may not have gotten distracted by the fun fall/Halloween decorations.  Some times you just have to stop and try the masks on.

Halloween things out already? I guess I haven't been paying attention. I love being silly in a store and that mask is awesome. :) I think it's awesome that the design wall spray basting worked so well for you. The border print for the baby quilt is stunning and I bet your quilting is really going to add life and help the full design shine!

Thanks for the nod, Tish! My flying geese have happily settled on my living room trunk :-) The fabric in your quilt is just wonderful, and I may need some of that border fabric! I love it. The mask is too funny! No finish for me this week, I had too many other projects to get done.

Hi Tish! I've been seeing the quilting on IG today so I know how beautiful this is going to turn out . . . like a sneaky peek. That baby and her mom are just going to LOVE it. So, do you always host a linky party on Saturday?? Why do I not know this? I'm going to see if I can add your button to my page - if I can only remember how to do so. Then I'll come back and join in the fun! ~smile~ Roseanne

Your quilt is really pretty! Fabulous colors and pattern. The scrap vortex looks great too. I might make one of those sometime soon.

Hi Tish; thanks for the shoutout. I just realized from reading Louise's post that I do not receive notifications of your posts so I have to remedy that especially if I'm doing the Fireburst Mystery. Also, I need to go to Dollar General and buy me that mask--what a fun way to end your post after seeing what you've been up to.
