It's been a busy week again, with little actual sewing. Tisha, get your crap together. How do you expect to bust UFO's if you keep chasing Big Foot?? Guess this is like job security for this party, huh?
Remember my dilemma of needing a birthday challenge guild project, after mine became a mystery quilt? Dilemma solved. After all the person that threw down the challenge probably shouldn't show up empty handed.
I had just enough fabrics left over to create a one block version of Yvonne at Quilting Jetgirl's Star Crystal Quilt. I loved the way it turned out and can't wait to get it all quilted up.
The only thing left to quilt on the pinwheel quilt is the piano keys in the border. Fingers crossed this weekend.
I posted more details for the Fire Burst Mystery Quilt on Wednesday and have been working on the color/fabric selection post for Tuesday (cutting instructions next Friday). I'm so excited so many have showed interest in participating! The final party sponsor list is now up to seven (I'll officially post about them soon)! I'm also considering a Facebook QAL Group. If anyone has experience in running one or do you even like Facebook groups, I'd love to hear your opinion,
I swore to myself I would limit the number of QAL's I did this year to catch up on all my old projects, but I find one sneaking in. Sandra at mmm!quilts second annual QAL, this time Playtime Plus. You can read more about it here. I'm playing around with two different color layouts and I can't decide.
I'll call it the Super Sexy Sophisticated Adult Playtime Plus. How's that for a title? But which one should I choose?
As one of the sponsors for Sandra's quilt along (and if you've been there to check out the post did you notice that David and I will have an announcement soon?) , I have been working my tail off this week to write yet another pattern. I thought it might be nice to have more than one thing to bring to the table for the winner.
It is a quilt we are being commissioned to make using one of David's original designs. I figured why not go ahead and turn it into a written pattern as well.
Today is also my day to be featured at Melva Love Scraps in her Quilters Through the Generation Series.
If you have some free time and want to learn what possibly makes this "crazy like a mad hatter" quilter tick, click on over and check out Melva's posts and all the past quilters she has featured.
Last item of business, the 2018 New Quilt Bloggers Blog Hop is still rocking right along.
Over the past two weeks, we have introduced you to 16 new quilt bloggers and we aren't finished! There is still 16 more to go. I hope you have been hopping along with us and meeting everyone. If you aren't you are missing out...insert sad face. That's okay. We are giving you a whole week to catch up, but the party will fire back up after everyone has rested on May 7th. Make sure you swing by my the landing page to check out the new peeps.
Let's have a look at last week. If you missed the post by Shasta at High Road Quilter, you need to take a moment to check it out. In her post she talks about how to avoid abandoning a project that you are falling out of love with. We all do it...most of us more than we would like. Think of it as quilting marriage advice...how to stay in love and fall back in love with a project.
Along the same lines, it brings me to Julie at Pink Doxies and her quilt top finish this week. She had participated in Bonnie Hunter's En Provence QAL a while back. She changed up her fabrics and found when the reveal came about, she didn't like how things came together. All those thousands of pieces. Long story short she packed up all the millions of pieces and stored them away.
This week things changed when she was able to find a way to fall back in love with all those billions of quilt pieces.
If she ends up breaking up with it again, I may have to get permission to ask it out. I'm in love. Make sure you hop over to Pink Doxies are read about this on again off again quilt relationship.
Now it's your turn. Have you fallen out of love with a project and are you trying to rekindle those flames? Or are you ignoring those lose piles of quilts calling to you for something more flashy and exciting? Link up and tell us all about it.Let's have a look at last week. Do you EVER sleep? LOL!
Thanks for choosing the Starlight Crystals pattern for your challenge; it looks great! It will be fun to see what you decide for the Playtime Plus QAL. :) I'm definitely going to check out Melva's post, and I hope you have a great weekend.
Hi Tish,
I agree with Chris!! Do you ever have time to sleep?! Goodness, you have A LOT on your plate. Just whip up a pattern, create a QAL, join another one . . . You are my hero! I'll be happy to read Melva's feature on you. And I love Facebook QAL options and here's why - people seem to comment and share photos much more often than regular QALs. Normally, you only share updates during linky parties - you can't share a quick photo as you go along. Just my unrequested thoughts on that subject!

Melva's post was very good and I can see where you get your talent from...it's in the genes! I could use some of your energizer batteries to keep my butt in gear.
Oo, I love your Star Crystal! Those deep, rich fabrics are luscious. And what fun to read your quilting history on Melva's blog. You rock, Tish! :)
I love the layouts you are looking at for Sandra's QAL...the one on the right makes me happy. I toyed with doing Black, white and red and then went in a different direction. Your challenge made with the Snowflake Crystal block is lovely. Look forward to seeing it completed.
I read your article on Melva's blog. Well-written! I did notice that UFOs tend to run in your family but you're making great gains with this UFO linky. I, on the other hand, finished quilting the elephant quilt and now it's languishing waiting for the binding. I mean, really, it's already prepped! Hopefully, by Monday, I'll be jumping for joy as I stuff it in a box and mail it away.
I have been reading your post for over an hour, I kept getting sidetracked by all the interesting links! I was captivated by your family history of quilting you were so lucky to have the influence of so many quilters in your family, even though they are no longer with you their influence is evident. I love their quilts too, sadly I have no history of quilting in my family at all, there is only me. There is a history of sewing and needlecrafts though, but my sister and daughter don't sew at all although they both crochet (I don't). I haven't been working on any UFOs recently but after reading all the tips I am inspired to start on the next one, fingers crossed I have something to share soon.
What a lovely feature, Tish! I had not read about your Death Quilt previously, what a heartbreaking yet ultimately lovely and hopeful story. That's also quite a quilting legacy you've got! My grandmother made quilts and I'm lucky enough to have one, though she passed before I discovered my passion for it. Many years after she passed, my sister-in-law was helping my dad move and found a box of unfinished Sunbonnet Sue blocks my grandmother had made--sister in law saved them from being thrown out and gave them to me. Some of those blocks are now in a wall-hanging in my sewing room. I love that I got to finish one of her UFOs!
Love Julie's ufo. If only my UFO were like that, I would feel more inclined to finish them. I loved your block. Sounds daft but it reminded me of smoker jacket, the sort that Sherlock Holmes would have worn. Or to be more precise, a dressing gown my dad had. (the only dressing gown he had for my whole life) that reminded me of Sherlock Holmes!
You have been busy. I think I like the version with the red plus. I have background fabric, but need to decide on plus fabric.
Phew, and I thought I had a lot going on! It feels good to scratch UFOs off the list. I've been doing well by participating in a local UFO challenge to finish one a month in 2018.
I love Julie's quilt! I dabbled briefly with the idea of joining Sandra's QAL before a new idea came to me. I like the version on the right - the contrast is stronger
