My Favorite Quilting Tools

I have a quilting confession to make.  Some of my most favorite quilting tools are not even quilting tools.  Many my favorite quilt marking tools can be found very inexpensively at your local office supply store in the drafting section.  I took time to reflect on this the other day.  I was marking up a heart and feather whole cloth when I realized I had forgot to mark the row of pearls on the right side of the heart.

I suppose if I had enough time on my hands I could have rounded up various size round things around my house to trace my circles or I could have free handed them.  But as luck would have it, I didn't have to.

The green circle template worked perfect for finding circles to fit in the space.

The drafting section will also be home to various protractors and triangle rulers that will work perfect for getting just the right curve of angle.

This ruler is perfect when you need to form curves.  You can bend it as you need to, to fit into tricky spaces and it will hold it's shape.  It even has ruler markings on its side.

I'm not even sure what these are called, but they have come in very handy for marking curves.

So the next time you are stranded in say Staples and you are board, take a jaunt over to the drafting section.  I have to say there are many little treasures to be found there.

On a completely different note, today is the second day of the Fabri-Quilt New Block blog hop.

Yesterday, 16 bloggers introduced to us 12" blocks they created using the fabric generously donated by Fabri-Quilt.  Over the next 3 days even more blocks will be revealed.  Today's group is being lead by Cheryl at Meadow mist designs.  Please take a moment to check out all of the great blocks and tutorials.  Oh and don't forget to check out the give away...wink...wink.

And don't forget to check out yesterday's bloggers as well.

I have some of the same drafting items as you and have found them to useful myself at times. My blue bendy thingie doesn't have a ruler on it like yours though.

Those funny shaped things are called French Curves. Don't know why -- that is just what my engineer husband calls them. I use his occasionally!! Sally

Okay I have to show my husband (ha just wrote on your newer post about husbands) to look at this post. I want one of those rulers! Maybe he has some of this stuff in his garage (he was a machinist all his life, so has tools out the yin-yang and then some. Love your wholecloth quilt so far, wow.
