Sunday/Monday/Funday Stash

After a pretty low key, hide under a rock kind of weekend, I have some various stash reporting to do.  I kind of laid low this Mother's Day weekend both in my real life and on social media.  Emotionally I was in a weird place.  This was the first time since my father passed away that it fell on Mother's Day (it was Mother's Day the year he passed), so I just wasn't feeling so cheery. (I've wrote a small tribute about him last year called Remembering my Dad)

Knowing I was going to be in a blah state of mind, Saturday my husband suggested we travel a hour or so north and visit some of my favorite quilt shops.  This sounded like a perfect distraction to me so north we headed.  There was also ulterior motives involved as well.

After showing him a picture of Sandra's Sunny Days Quilt from mmmquilts, he started asking questions.  Like. "how hard would that be to make," and "how far away do you sew two things together?"  (That question took some deciphering on my part.  He was talking about seam allowance)  So after relaying his interest to Sandra (I think he thought I was pulling her leg) she was over the moon happy to speed up the writing of this pattern for him to test.

She realized that it was getting real over here, when I sent her this picture Saturday morning.

I was able to capture this picture of the beast in the wild.  I walked away, observed and let him do his own thing.  He had his own vision and it was not up for debate.  After we were home again, he insisted on taking his fabrics outside so I could snap a picture in good lighting to send to Sandra.

Then on Sunday, I noticed he posted this picture on Facebook with the caption, "Better pic of the colors."

I'm hopeful his enthusiasm will continue and maybe he can find a zin/relaxing way to spend some of this time.  Cause Call of Duty doesn't sound as relaxing as he claims it is.

So what stash items did I score Saturday...not a single thing.  Trust me, I am as surprised as you are.  And remember I said I was in a blah state of mind.  I think I was just riding on his fabric high.  However, I did gain some sort of stash items through out the week.

I stated in an earlier post declaring to join Lindsey Rhodes from LR Stitched in her May is for Makers quest.

So my fabric stash may not be growing, but my book and pattern stash sure are.  Last weekend I ordered a copy of Lara's (Buzzin Bumble) book Crafted Applique.  I'm super excited about cracking into this book.  I think this may be the technique I have been waiting for.

And on Friday, I decided to treat myself to two patterns I have been eyeballing for a while.  Let me start off by saying, I love Lorna over at Sew Fresh Quilts and all her pattern designs.  I have got to know her a little bit via email and participating in her Let's Bee Social Linky parties.  Last year I was able to participate in a blog hop for her Dog Done Cute pattern.  I loved the pattern so much I made two.

And a few months ago, I purchased her Squirrels in the Park Pattern to turn into a graduation present.

I have my fabric, but just haven't gotten to sew it up yet.  So Friday, I wanted to show Lorna more love and support by picking up two more of her patterns I've fallen in love with.  First up is her Cat Treats Quilt.

I cannot look at this quilt without seeing my tiny little Princess Caroline of the Fuzzy Butts.

And I also purchased her pattern called Wow-E.

I love the colors she chose for this quilt, but I'm dying to make it and throw in some yummy prints.

If you haven't checked out Lorna's patterns before consider hopping over to her Etsy store and checking them out.  I promise I have no affiliation in sending you over there, I'm just fan girl crushing on her patterns.  I plan to post again next weekend to give an update on how my May is for Makers is shaping up.

Today I'm linking up with Let's Bee SocialLinky TuesdayMain Crush Monday, and Sunday Stash.

Bwahahaha....nice post....gave me several smiles and a big belly laugh! I was gonna say your hubs is a keeper when I read his suggestion to go to some quilt shops. I can't imagine mine EVER suggesting such a thing. Then when I read about him "testing" Sandra's pattern I began to imagine what it would be like if I had to share my quilting adventure with my hubby bubby. I DON'T want to go there!!!! So good luck and best wishes for how this turns out...please keep us posted! On a more serious note though...I totally understand your reluctance to be "out there" for Mother's Day. Blessings....kathy

Hope hubby enjoys his quilt and doesn't raid your stash (too often)! Missed your Dog Gone Cute quilts last year - they're fab!

I burst out loud laughing when I read that the "beast in the wild" posted a "better pic of the fabrics" on FB!!!! BAHAHA, love that man. He's a keeper. Well, most of the time, right?! Man, did he get some gorgeous fabrics!! I have always loved Lorna's Wow-E quilt pattern; going to check that out, and I suddenly have one of her Dog Gone Cute quilts to be made asap for a pibble rescue donation.

Wow, my hubby wouldn't even think about quilt making. Lucky you well maybe not, I hope you have a machine for him. But how fun having a sewing buddy right there.

How exciting that your husband is trying out quilting. Years and years ago when we were young I taught Dwight how to weave and he turned out to be better at it than me...so you better watch out. He has no designs on the sewing machine though. I'll be buying that kitty pattern from Lorna as well. I mean't to ages ago so this will be the push.

So fun that your hubby wants to try his luck! And I totally approve of his fabric selection. You can tell him if he doesn't love his quilt when done he can send it to me, LOL

Love those fabrics! My husband's eyes start glazing over at the mere mention of anything sewing/fabric related.

I am so excited to hear and see more about your husband's progress. I love his fabric pull! And I'm sorry you have the case of the blah's. Those cute quilt patterns from Lorna seem cheery and fun and I hope you are getting some sewing therapy.

Lorna is one of my very favorite people and pattern designers too Tish! And thank you so much for buying my book - I'm tickled to think you'll be trying the technique.

That is just the greatest that your husband is going to make Sandra's Sunny Days quilt! How awesome! I wish my husband would take up quilting. I think he would love it if he tried it. Love your guy's fabric choices!

Forgot to add that Princess Caroline looks like she was the model kitty for Lorna's Cat Treats pattern. You are going to have a ball making that!

What an interesting turn of events...I can just see you laying back in the fabric store and letting hubby do his thing. My hubby - no way would that happen! He has helped me choose fabric before but that's as far as it goes. I think it's great that he is going to pattern test for Sandra, and I'm looking forward to seeing his version. Hmm, will he be starting a quilting blog??? ;)

I am still repeating this out aloud - "So your HUSBAND wants to test SANDRA's pattern?" Well, Tish, you have to keep us updated. Very curious to see how this develops.
Mother's Day (and Father's Day too) is difficult for many of us... I can totally understand your blah state of mind. Been there.
Sending you hugs and best wishes.
Preeti.

I hope you are feeling much better now. We all have those moments when our memories overwhelm us...certain days of the year.
Your husband...is a keeper! When I finished my daughters birthday quilt, I said that's enough! Someone needs to make me one. We decided my son should be the one to do just that! Now if I could only put that in to motion!

Oh Tish - it truly is an emotional rollercoaster when a parent dies isn't it? No matter how many years have passed .. and how well things are going until the anniversary of the day ...... I am so pleased to see your husband jumping straight in - and well done to you on not 'helping' with the fabric choice!

I also considered the Wow-E!! I can't wait to see what fabrics you use :)

Just an FYI honey...I had no ulterior motive about going anywhere except for you to feel better. I knew it would be hard. I spent almost as much time with your dad as I did with my own before he passed away. So me getting fabrics was just a small no bonus.

I think your dad would approve of me trying to share in something you love. And at be a try it and "hate it" for me because I am not good with geometry or math. But I like the artistic side of it. Bottom line at least I'll have a different/better perspective of your hobby. Keep on quilting your good at it!!!!

Your hubbies comment is so adorable. Love that he said, keep on quilting you're good at it! ENJOY!!!

I love that your husband is getting into quilting. That's awesome! I dragged my husband and his friend to the fabric store one day on a trip we were taking and they actually got really into helping me pick fabric! It was very cool, but I haven't managed to sell them on sewing yet. ;) I've also been trying to have an eye out for neutrals lately and that white he picked out is great!

I love that your husband is trying his hand at quilting (and that he wanted to know how far apart you sew things together, lol)! His comment on the post is so sweet too :)
