UFO Busting #30

Happy Saturday to you!  I hope this post finds you happy and safe where ever you are.  It's been a crazy week watching as Hurricane Florence prepares to hit along the east coast near the Carolinas.  I did manage to sneak in some sewing earlier in the week before helping my aunt in law prepare for her weekend move.  My muscles definitely got a workout this week and the past few.

I want to give a huge shout out to my family and friends for all the help the provided with this move.  I feel very lucky to be surrounded by such wonderful people that are willing to jump in and help, when really they didn't have to.  It definitely made this move much quicker and easier.

Now on to the sewing.

I'm quilting Star Blossom very similar to other baby quilt versions I've done already.  If it's not broke don't fix it, right?  I had planned to just micro stipple in the white star shaped area, but at the last minute thought radiating lines!

I love it!  Especially with the cross hatching in the other background areas.

I lost a little quilting steam when I came to the borders.  Why does that always seem to happen?  I was determined to push through so I took to Instagram and Pinterest for inspiration.  I wanted to add some bling but not compete with that beautiful fabric.  I found inspiration in a picture on Natalia Bonner's Instagram Page (so much quilting eye candy there!).

The great part is it is stitching up quickly and hopefully I can share this quilt finish with you next week.  As I've been quilting on this one, I've been thinking about all the UFO's stacked around the house still waiting on me.

I've done well this year completing what I've started, so I will give myself a huge pat on the back.  Especially with all the craziness going on at home right now.  I made a list of some projects I'd like to finish by the end of the year.

Eighteen made the list.  This is not even half my UFO's but it's a start.  I'm very optimistic this list can be completed before the end of the year.  The Unicorn Quilt for my daughter is now a year old so I'm thinking it needs to be tackled ASAP.  There is also another quilt for my sister in law that I'd like to finish before I go see her in November.  Can you say Chop! Chop!  I think I may play the random number generator game and let fate decide my next project.  Anyone want to join me?

I also broke down and started my challenge project for the quilt guild...anything with flying geese.  I had fun arranging all the left over Kate Spain fabrics to come up with my layout.

I only have two more seams to sew and this very modern baby quilt will be all together.  You can also see bits of block 3 of Fireburst in the background waiting to be sewn together.

On to my longest running UFO...me, myself and I.  I debated long and hard before I decided to post this because it is so personal and not really quilting.  I stated about 2-3 months ago, it was time to work on me.  I've been focusing on what I've been eating and have managed to loose about 25-26lbs (I'm not finished yet).  I feel so much better physically and as I get my life in order mentally.  Better than I have in years.

The picture on the left is me in May at the heaviest I've ever been.  I didn't realize how many things in my life were dragging me down and allowing me to let myself eat my feelings away.  Feeling bad about yourself is a down hill slope and once you slip it's so easy to keep sliding because it's super slick and the incline is well...a bitch.  The picture on the right was last weekend at a wedding I attended.  That is the first time in years I've worn a dress in public.  I feel healthier than I have in years and I know it only keeps getting better.  I couldn't resist snapping a bathroom selfie when I saw myself in the mirror.  I'm not even sure I know that girl, but dang, I want to get to know her even more.  Plus, I've heard she's one heck of a quilter.

Now let's take a look at projects from last week's party.  I wanted to feature two quilt this week that represent why we do what we do...spread quilty love to others.  Last week, Sandy at Sew This Is My Blog shared a quilt she made for a friend of her son.  When she learned that he had never had a quilt of his own, she knew she needed to take action.

If you missed reading about AJ's quilt make sure you hop over there and check it out.

Jen at de Jong Dream House share a quilt finish she made for a dear friend of hers she called the Anne of Green Gables Quilt.

So many special little details went into this quilt, right down to the fabrics she used.  Make sure you check this one out...you just might find yourself inspired to start a quilt for that special someone you love in your life.

Now let's see what's been going on in your quilting world this week.  Link up and tell us about UFOs your tackling, squirrels your wrangling or what ever has been going on in your world.

If you link up, I do hope you will take some time to visit with other fellow party goers.  I have to say I'm inspired each week by each and everyone of you that take the time to come over and party with me.

The quilting progress looks great, Tish, as do you. Working our ourselves can definitely be hard, and I'm glad you are feeling so much more confident! <3 It's awesome your family came together to help so much and I hope that it made the move go smoothly.

I love the fabrics in that star quilt, Tish. That border fabric is so pretty! You, my friend, look fantastic! Proud of you. Keep going! All those flying geese. You apparently like them more than me. Haha!

Dang, girl! You're looking mighty fine! You're clearly doing a great job making the right choices for your health. Star Blossom is looking great, too! :)

What an inspiring post, Tish! In multiple ways! Inspiring me to focus more on UFO's, and seeing the change in you by focusing on eating better. You look GREAT!! WOW!! That's a beautiful dress too. I'm going to hop over to the blogs you mentioned and read those stories. I love the quilting design you chose for your border. Thanks for all the inspiration! I just might have to join with you on the UFO project. Are we going to make a list and have someone else randomly pick a number for us to work on? I have ONE quilt I have not even started that I must finish before July (I think I can manage that) but I can work on all the other UFO's while I'm at it too, right? :)

Wow! What a difference! Just the inspiration I needed today to make better choices. No more snacks in the craft room! (Thanks for featuring my Anne of Green Gables quilt!)

I'm glad I decided to catch up on my blog reading tonight. Thanks for sharing about AJ's quilt. I did not expect to see that here! You've been knocking those UFOs right out of the ballpark. (And you look fabulous, by the way! Good job!)
