Side Tracked-I'm not shocked

I'm officially side tracked, but it's okay.  I can work on new stuff and still get old stuff finished too, right?  I've been so far behind in blogland and reading lately, it's not funny.  I'm slowly but surely catching up.  One of the catching up was reading Bernie at Needle and Foot's call for making doll quilts for what she was calling Spread the Love, Quilting For Kids.  I was moved as I read Bernie's words about Amy and her venture called A Doll Like Me.  Bernie was asking quilters during the month of February to make doll quilts to send to Amy.  The out pour from the quilting community did not surprise me one bit.  I love how the quilting community came together to make quilts to send to this wonderful cause.

I figure it's never too late, right?  My goal is to go into doll quilt making mode, but for three reasons.  One, I want to make quilts to send to Amy.  I also intend on telling my quilt guild about the project, incase some of them might want to join in.  Two, make doll quilts for our guild's upcoming boutique.  We are trying to focus on smaller quilted items to have for sell.  There has been much talk about fabric post cards, but doll quilts seem like a logical item too.  Plus they can pass as wall hangings and table toppers.  Three, quilting practice.  What a great way to practice free motion quilting!  I have a few designs I would like to play around with, so some of my doll quilts might be whole cloth style.

So the past few days, I have been chasing these squirrels.  I've gathered some fabrics and pieced up two quilts.

I will probably make a few more of this one.  The pattern is called Scrap Squares and it is in the 101 Fabulous Small Quilts book.  All you need are some charms and little yardage and you are good to go.

I found this doll quilt pattern while surfing around on Pinterest.  It is a free pattern by Lindsay at PA Country Crafts called Star Doll Quilt.  Both of these quilts cut and pieced very quickly.

I even have fabric pulled for the next three quilts.  I'm not 100% sure what patterns I will use, but simple is good.  I will wait till I have several pieced before I quilt them.  Some quilts will no doubt receive custom quilting jobs and the others simple all over designs.

I also wanted to remind everyone that today is the last day to sign up for the 2018 New Quilt Bloggers Blog Hop.  If you are new to quilt blogging and haven't signed up go read this post now!  If you are a well seasoned blogger mark your calendars for the first two weekends in April and May and join us in fun giveaways and hopping around getting to know new quilt bloggers.  I know I can't wait for the party to begin.

Today I'm linking up with Midweek Makers.

Hi Tish,
Worthy reasons for joining in on the doll quilt cause. I have been following a QAL with Angela Walters in a weekly FMQ tutorial of sorts. She posts a YouTube video with a new technique each week. I thought about doing placemats of all the different skills learned but a doll quilt might be even better. ~smile~ Roseanne

Yes we have to have new things to work on to keep our creative juices flowing or as a reward to finishing a UFO. A worthy cause you have found:)

now when you say fabrics pulled for 3 more quilts, do you mean doll quilts? Or proper new projects? I think I know the answer. You must be having withdrawal symptoms as you finish up all your wip.
Your actual doll quilts are lovely, the star points are exactly spot on.

I like the star it is going to be lovely when quilted no matter how you quilt it.

I took a break, as well, and whipped up a couple of doll quilts for Amy. I practiced machine quilting my binding on, and I must say, it sure is quick and easy with practice! im now on to a bigger project...but wait! Decided to use the scraps I was generating as leader enders, and now I’m machine quilting a mini, instead of working on my quilt! Distractions, distractions! I so miss my Janome. Love your doll quilts, and yes, they would be perfect to make to sell, for all those reasons. That’s a triple whammy! XO

I am positive Amy is going to love receiving the doll quilts whenever you have them ready to send to her. A lovely and kind squirrel and distraction for you to do!

I’m sure it isn’t too late at all Tish, and remember the quilts will eventually run out, there will always be a need for more. I loved being in the New Quilt Bloggers, it was a great experience and I would encourage any new blogger to go for it. That’s how I met you :-)

Watch out, Tish, those doll quilts are really addictive :) Yours are super cute, and you can't go wrong with that next fabric pull, either!

What a great cause. Good for you to stop and make these quilts for them. A nice way to take a break!

Wow Tish! When you do something, you do it in a big way! Good for you! I love your doll quilts and I absolutely agree with you that it's a great time to do some practice FMQ. I'm particularly intrigued by your idea of a whole cloth doll quilt. That sounds fun! Are you going to use variegated thread or a solid color? Can't wait to see!

I think it's fine to go chasing squirrels when it's for such a great cause! Spread the love! Your doll quilts look lovely and I really like the fabrics you've pulled for the next one.

Yes, I've been a wee bit distracted from my UFOs lately, having way too much fun with new designs, doll quilts and other creative stuff. Your quilts are so cute (love that star quilt) and I'm sure Amy will be delighted to get them. I've thought about suggesting A Doll Like Me to our group as well.

Lovely quilts! I saw the request for doll quilts and am hoping for better late than never; my sewing time is limited until May or June, so it will be summer before I can put some together. It looks like you will be busy with doll quilts!

I just learned about "A Doll Like Me" last week and I LOVE it. I have a few quilts in the works, too. Yours are really cute. The first one with the peach and teal, and grey -- darling!
