Party Fireburst

And BOOM!  Number two.  Done.  Designing the quilting for this quilt top really was like mediation.  I've already quilted one and there is still one more small one to go, how do I come up with something different??  I seriously had to clear my head.

I set down one evening with just me, the quilt top, a chalk pencil and a ruler.  No music or noise.  I took a deep breath and just started connecting lines.

Shapes just started jumping out at me from the background space!  Every time I found myself thinking about it, I walked away to do something else.  When I would come back even more possibilities showed themselves to me.

The entire quilting design played off the center block that looks like it is on point, but it isn't.  And most of the quilting is about lines, lines and more lines.  As I normally do when choosing threads, I went with ones that would blend almost perfectly into the fabrics.  Hind site, with all that black, I would have chosen a gray that slightly stood out.

I ended up using (from left to right) Aurifil #2610 Light Blue Grey, #1100 Red Plumb, #5006 Light Turquoise, and #2692 Black.  Everything blended in perfect giving the subtle texture I love on my quilts.

Below is a rough sketch of my quilting plan.  When you look at the pictures of the quilt, you can see that some of the fillers changed.

My photo shoot mainly focused on trying to get pictures of the quilting.  With a black on black background and a background not in photography...the struggle was real.  Plus the weather and time change made things a challenge as well.

I just love how this quilt turned out!  So much going on, but it doesn't over power the beautiful pops of pink and blue against that dark background.

The same quilt and two very different looks, in fabrics and quilting.  If you missed Garnet Fireburst you can check it out here.

Don't forget to email me your finished Fireburst quilts or quilt tops by December 31st to tishnwonderlandqal(at)gmail(dot)com.  I promise there is still plenty of time to make one before our display of quilts on New Years Day!  It's time for me to get cracking on the 3rd small quilt!  Time's ticking by too quickly!

Today I'm linking up with Let's Bee Social, Midweek Makers, NTT and Linky Tuesday.

Hi Tish! I just love this darker version. Not more than the garnet one, just differently. HAHA! Seriously, the black background really sets off the pattern. It is quite striking, especially the turquoise blocks. WOW. Your quilting really enhances the whole project but doesn't distract one single bit from the loveliness. Nice job! I can't remember what the third one looks like, if we even saw it at all. But I do look forward to seeing it all finished. Happy Holidays to you and your family. Happy Tuesday. ~smile~ Roseanne

I like how you created an inner medallion with the quilting. I keep trying to think of how to do something with curves, but lines just keep popping into my head. That dark background is really stunning! Sure makes those colors pop!

Love the black background and the quilting is stunning! The colours really pop and the quilting helps to enhance them.

Gorgeous, Tish! I do like how your quilting makes it appear on point, and I do love seeing different colorways together. This gets me very excited to see the parade of finishes soon!

Gotta love a quilted to death quilt-fantastic!! Sometimes I hate hindsight-it's sad when our quilting doesn't show up just how we envisioned it. We want it to show but not stick out like a sore thumb!!

Oh, those photos in the grass show the quilting off so well! So. Much. Texture. I love it!! I will tell you that quilting black thread onto black fabric doesn't get any easier with each passing year LOL :)

Fantastic quilting Tish!! Yesterday I finally decided on a backing so today I will baste mine together and figure out the next step. Mine will be a baby quilt so I want it soft. Just need to decided between curves or straight lines. Decisions, decisions!!

Both are gorgeous! You did a great job coming up with a different quilting design, as I know it can be a difficult task. Thanks for sharing these on Midweek Makers
