UFO Busting #26

This will probably be one of the very few not upbeat posts you will find on my blog ever, so let me apologize first.  Sometimes life throws you a curve ball and you have to re-evaluate things, whether you want to or not.  That's me right now today.  Absolutely nothing quilting related happened this week, unless you count straightening up the sewing space and filing away fabrics.

I did, however, start to work on a very important UFO, one that will remain a UFO until the day I die and that is me.  I am probably my most neglected UFO.  We will always be our most important UFO and we can't forget that.  I had forgotten that.  We don't realize how we feel about ourselves can actually bleed off onto other people and they may not perceive/interpret things as you do.  There are no magic crystal balls into other people.  So this week, I shook off the cobwebs, picked up my boot straps and started doing just that.

It's hard to admit that you are unhappy with your body.  It's easy to have confidence sitting here at this computer...you can't see me.  There's nothing wrong with me per se, I look just fine.  Maybe I could say I could be healthier.  So this week, I have focused solely on what I've put into my body and started cleaning the spaces around me to remove the clutter.  I have to say, I feel slightly better.  It will be a process and a challenging one at that, but in the end it will be worth it.

After a week of cutting the carbs to pretty much zero and focusing on good fats and protein, I can start to feel and see a difference.  Don't get me wrong, I'd probably wrestle you to the ground right now for a Reese Cup, but I'm choosing not to.  I will however give you sad eyes while you eat it and don't be alarmed if I try to sniff it or possibly lick it.  I'm told the sugar withdrawal will pass.

I hope to return to my upbeat self soon, but for now, this is where I'm at, and that is okay.  We can't be Suzie Sunshine 24/7.  However, there are things to look forward to.  Tomorrow I will release the next set of piecing instructions for the Fireburst Mystery QAL.  I can't wait to see the progress you guys are making!

So let's take a look at what you guys were up to last week.  Last week Wendy at Pieceful Thoughts of My Quilty Life had a project finish.

She calls this one Sunshine and Shadows.  With all rain around where I live seeing this lovely burst of yellow sun shine was a wonderful welcome.

I want to give a huge pat on the back to Janice at Color, Creating and Quilting.  She is determined to hone in on her free motion quilting skills.

Last week she shared a new quilting motif she has been practicing and the progress she is making on quilting Ashley's quilt.  Make sure you hope over to her page and give her some encouragement.  She is doing great!

So what have you been up to this week.  I hope there was more quilting in your life than mine.  Link up below and tell us all about it.

  1. This week flew by. Fires lit, ashes cleaned out, baking done and posted south to Grandson, 21 today. Second lot went north to his Mum, our older daughter. It was wrongly directed, by the Post Shop staff... so has not arrived. Merino neck warmers, fingerless mitts and scarves cut, some sewn, off to Hugh's niece in Tasmania. Tried to get the second Green Ted finished, he is sadly still waiting for a bit more applique stitching. Well done Tish for your commitment, this will be like your quilting, you will apply yourself with strength and will power.

  4. Hi Tish,
We often forget we are the most important cog in making everything is our life run, smoothly or otherwise. {{Hugs}} No one expects Suzie Sunshine 24/7, but your usual sunny outlook on life in general is certainly pleasant. You will find your balance with carbs and yourself, and those sugar cravings will definitely minimize. It is difficult to find the balance, no doubt. I struggle with it all the time, and some days just give up and not care about it. Others, I can be focused and only eat healthy choices. However it shakes down, I enjoy you just as you are all the time. Truth.
    Happy Saturday! ~smile~ Roseanne

  5. It may be a difficult journey until you find a balance that works for you, but I know you can do it!

  6. Tish a few years ago I was experiencing a lot of joint pain so I went to visit my naturopath. I did some testing and then did an elimination diet. One of the first things I noticed on the elimination diet was that my mood lifted. My naturopath figured it was the cane sugar....so I pretty much cut it out of my diet. Now I will have it occasionally like at someones birthday party. My mood dips after eating it but as I know what it is I can get over it more quickly.
I'm not sure if it is the time of year but I have been feeling negatively about my body lately as well....and the mess. You have spurred me on to clean up a little...We will see how long it lasts ha ha.

  7. I read an interesting article somewhere this week that asked how would you treat your car if you knew you could only have ONE car in your lifetime. Most of us would be diligent about providing it with the utmost care and maintenance. Yet, we get only one body and I know I am guilty of not always providing my precious body with good food, adequate exercise and abundant self care. What is up with that?? I am trying to keep the idea of self-care in mind and I loved reading your essay today. Good luck!

  9. Hugs to you, Tish. It's okay to have to take a break and care for yourself. Thanks for being open about it. And thanks for the highlight; glad you liked my little tablerunner.

  11. Oh, big hugs and lots of love to you, Tish! We are absolutely the biggest UFOs that we have to work on in our life. It can be so easy to lose sight of that and I applaud you for taking the steps for yourself. You can do it. We all get knocked down but the amazing part is that we get back up with the support of friends. <3

  12. Congratulations on making a wise choice for your health and your peace of mind. Carbs might be the toughest addiction to beat, considering how many of us try and how few succeed! I find that combining the physical with a little spiritual improvement works well together, too. =)

  14. Oh, girl friend, I feel your pain with the dietary changes. A year ago when I had to go gluten free I was a grouch for about 10 days. It does get better. Hang in there! I used to love pot lucks and now despise them unless I strategically plan to take a main dish that is "Melva safe". Be blessed!

  15. Good for you and good luck!! I've been doing Weight Watchers and have lost the weight I wanted to, but I would likely fight someone for things I shouldn't be eating. What do all the "bad" things taste so yummy.

  16. Sending you big hugs and encouragement! We tackled the low carb diet a number of years ago and I can say that it DOES get better. The changes to the ol' bod are so worth it and the cravings go away, so yay you for starting down this path! Future Tish is so happy with Present Tish, I just know it :)

I'm off to do the next steps on my Fireburst QAL. Thank you so much for spearheading this fun project!

  17. Hay Tish! I am feeling the same way about myself! I am ready to start exercising and eating healthy. I want to get those pounds off!

I am doing myfitnesspal.com. I would absolutely LOVE to friend each other there to encourage each other along. It is free and your weight is never disclosed to others.

  18. Good for you, Tish! You’ll feel so much better, even though it doesn’t seem like it right now!
